Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president, and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in American history. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010 she was appointed Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who worked for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A path towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. She was praised nationally for her provocative questioning of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault.
